  • Read the story below and answer the questions that follow: - There lived two men who were good friends. One of them was very wise and the other very foolish. One day, they argued between themselves and one said, “ I am the wise man in this country.” The other said, “No! I am the wisest.” As there was no way of measuring wisdom, the two men did not know who was wiser than the other. One day they were discussing the ill-behavior of their wives and one of them said, “If we want them to behave well we must beat them up. Women are like children, beat them up and they will behave well.” The other said, “No! If you beat your wife, she will become worse.” After arguing for a long time, they kept quiet and went home. On reaching his house, the man who was in favour of beating wives began to beat an ox-skin vigorously. When the other heard this, he thought the sound came from his friend beating his wife and he took a stick and beat his wife severely until she fell sick and later died. When the two men met later, it was now clear who between them was wiser than the other. (i) Suppose you were narrating this story, what would you do first before narration to capture the attention of the audience? (ii) How would you deliver the speech by the 2nd speaker? 'No, I am the wisest.' (iii) If you are listening to this story, what would you expect the story teller to do so as to make the story interesting? (iv) During the performance of this narrative, you notice that the audience is very attentive. What are the indicators that will show you that they are attentive?
