Life in campus takes a different turn from that of high school and the turn becomes even more sharper if you compare with that of primary school. The turn is not only associated with the social life but also academic life.

Academics are affected in various ways but we are going to look at the major distractions on studies to campus students.

1. Relationships
It is well known that most students in campus are involved in relationships in one way or another. Mass momentum and mass current, peer pressure, are among the factors that causes this to be so. Though some may say relationships are healthy at this stage of life, to some extent, at least to some people, they are a distraction to the learning process. To some, relationships may keep their minds at peace and therefore enable them to be sort of stress free and therefore enjoy and understand what they are studying. To others, more than the above, relationships actually offer distractions in various ways. One of the major ways is the wastage of time. Most "couples" very much like to spend their time together and unless they are in the same class then they may miss some classes just to please the other party. In some way also, some relationships may bring stress in one way or another and hence disrupt the learning process. Such stresses may be brought by petty things such as forgetting a good night wish or having a friend of the opposite sex. More magnitude-wise things may also bring stress some of which are well known.

2. Electronic gadgets. In primary and high school, students are not allowed to carry electronic gadgets - may be just calculators and watches - to class. In campus the story is different whatsoever

as all sorts of electronic gadget can be brought to class. The major ones include laptops, cell phones and tablet computers. According to studies, a good number of students, more than 80% agree that use of electronic gadgets may interfere with the process of learning. This is evident when you see some students busy accessing the internet when in class or logging onto social networking sites when in the library.

3. Drugs Drug and substance abuse is among the major things that affects campus students. At one time or another have you seen a student come to class when drunk or high in some form of drug? Okay let me give you another common scenario: have you heard at one time or another a student missing classes because he/she has indulged in drugs or is currently taking them? You probably have. Some students are that much hooked to drugs and at times view them as more important than their academics. They may spend much of their time drugging themselves as opposed to learning. This is greatly condemned as it ruins people's lives.

4. Peer pressure. Mass momentum. Mass current. We cannot deny the fact that peer pressure is strong in the campus world and that it dictates fully the life of other people. Everyone wants to be cool only that the definition varies from one person to another or should I say from one group to another? To some, missing classes and doing other "cool stuff" is what is the jam. They influence their members - and others join in - to participate in parties, drinking, watching movies, playing computer games and other non academic stuff when they are actually supposed to be learning. You know what all this ends up to? Cheating in exams.

5. Finances. Finances are another distraction to student learning though a mild one most of the times. Spending in campus is more than anywhere else in life. Students will this time put themselves in financial situations they have never been into in life, and they cannot afford. Others end up consuming all their fees and thus emotionally tortured wondering where they will get the money to pay the fees in order for them not to miss the exams. This is distraction as they cannot be able to concentrate on their studies when in fact their minds are occupied in another thing.
