Environmentalists have come up with ways to preserve the eco system; planting trees, reducing emitting of green house gases and most importantly recycling. Recycling is a process whereby unwanted materials are reintroduced back into the chain of production to make new products thus reducing their negative effects to the environment if left in garbage pits.

Technology is a milestone in human development, brought about usage of electronics in the world; among them mobile phones. They are widespread and have become essential to human life. But just like everything else in the world they have an expiry date (could be caused by the owner getting an improved version or the phone stopped functioning) and when this time reaches they are thrown away.

What most people don’t know is that they can not only recycle their worn out phones but also make some cash out of it.

Dangers that we face when the electronics are disposed off include: batteries of the phones contain chemicals that are harmful especially when it rains and the chemicals dissolve to make the water poisonous. Moreover, the plastics do not disintegrate easily and they cause an eye sore which makes the land around it unattractive. Often trash is burnt down and the batteries are explosive so this blazing of batteries can lead to dire consequences e.g. fire.

But there is a way to prevent all the above effects from occurring and it is by one simple phrase “recycling” and due to the harsh economic times every coin is valuable one can save the environment and make some cash out of it. That’s why there’s “recycling for cash.”

Though not that popular in Kenya we must espouse this method. It has numerous benefits and in the long run everybody comes out a winner. There are mobile companies that offer this recycling

option for their customers. The procedure is very simple and quick, you walk into a care shop for the phone and give them your old phone, thereafter you fill in some paperwork and they give the fee they think is reasonable for you. You walk out richer than you walked in and with a clear conscious that you played your part as a citizen and you got paid for it.
The company carrying out the recycling project will save on production costs so this means the final price of the new product will be lower making it more affordable to us, the consumers.

To conclude with, I encourage anyone who takes up the initiative of recycling their old phones. It is not about the cash but who would complain if he/she earned good clean environmentally friendly money. So think about the environment and think about your wallet, they can both win, it all depends on you. So say yes to the environment and say yes to your wallet: say yes to recycling for cash.
