ABSRACT
The study sought to investigate the recent innovations that may have taken place in the money and banking sector and to determine the impact of mobile and internet-banking on performance of financial institutions in Kenya. The research also identifies the extent of use of mobile and internet banking in financial institutions.
This research has found out that prevalent internet banking service is balance inquiry while the least is online bill payment. Cash withdrawal is the most commonly used mobile banking service. This involved a case study of local commercial banks and financial institutions within Nairobi Central Business District (CBD). Some of the commercial banks and financial institutions are: Equity Bank, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), Barclays Bank, Cooperative Bank, Cooperatives, Insurance companies, Building societies among others
