ABSTRACT
The main objective of this study was to investigate on the effects of tax policies on growth of tourism sector in Kenya with specific reference Mombasa County. Kenya is one of the leading countries in the sub-Saharan regions that have been persistently on the rise with regards to tourist attraction. The country has a potential for tourism growth based on most of its natural resources such as wildlife and natural features in the region. Kenya has embraced tourism sector as a tool for socioeconomic development such as creation of jobs, revenue generation, and distribution of wealth and promotion of economic development, both at national and local government. The objectives of the study were sector-oriented levies, VAT and corporate tax. The study was guided by the stakeholders’ theory, Keynesian theory and exogenous theory and covered the theoretical literature, empirical reviews and the conceptual framework adopted for this research.
The study adopted a descriptive research design in which the opinions of hotel management in Mombasa County as the target population were sought. From the sample population, primary data in form of questionnaires was obtained.
