INSTRUCTIONS

This paper is divided into three sections A, B, and C.
Answer three questions, one from each section.

SECTION A (24 MARKS)

1.
Discuss the rationale for studying comparative education by prospective teachers and educational reformers.

2.
The development of comparative education may be studied in phases or stages.
a)
Name four phases based on major activities characteristic of each phase.
b)
Elaborate on the first phase which you have named in (a) above.

3.
There are many debates that have characterized methodologies in comparative education. Using one of the methods that you have studied, discuss how you would tackle a problem of poor performance in the school where you work.

SECTION B (23 MARKS)

With reference to any country or countries of your choice, discuss the statement that: "the economic and political philosophy of a country determines the development of education".

5.
The education system in the USA is decentralized. Discuss this statement and show lessons that a developing country that is geared to devolution of its education system may learn from the USA.

6.
Describe some of the lessons that Kenya may learn from the system of education in any one of the socialist countries in the world.

SECTION C (23 MARKS)
7.
Investment in education in most African countries is seen to be affected by wastage.
a)
Discuss this statement and show the main causes of wastage in education
b)
Suggest the possible solutions to reduce wastage in education.

8.
Critically discuss the view that, "brain drain is not necessarily a bad thing in the current global village".

9.
Language has the ability to unite or divide populations. Using examples from two countries, discuss at least two language issues related to education, and how they can either strengthen or challenge the quality of these national systems of education.
