Apart from orders originating from inventory section, all other orders are checked to see if the requested items are carried in stock and if adequate stock is on hand then the purchase is necessary if not in hand then the order is adjusted to accommodate the inventory levels. The firm may use cross functional tips to to qualify a preliminary group for supplies through supply evaluation or appraisal procedures. Techniques of comprehensive bidding may then be used to select the desired suppliers. After selection of a supply the purchasing department then goes ahead to issue a serial numbered purchase order which is legally binding for the contract showing the agreed upon terms and conditions.
