Have you walked out of your house in perfect health and then all of a sudden, in the middle of the day, you start sneezing and eventually it turns into a running nose? Cold flu can ruin your day, it can as well make you go through hell when traveling, especially when in a long journey. Here are some useful tips that will guarantee you a less hectic journey during this December holiday.

When you travel, you are most likely to catch a flu on the way. Today, we have cold flu vaccines which are effective in controlling flu. However, according to recent reports by the Centre For Disease Control in the U.S, the vaccines are effective for no more than 65% of those who get them. This takes us back to the traditional preventive measures which, i think can go a long way in cabbing cold flu.

During this traveling season, a lot of people are going to find themselves in cramped airplanes, heavily populated waiting lounges, trains or bus stations. These areas offer rich breeding ground for germs responsible for cold flu because people sneeze, others cough and the air becomes saturated with germs. However, the good news is that you can do something to keep you away from flu.

Don't worry what others label you. They might think that you are the most cleanest fellow on planet earth, but it is worthwhile. If you can afford, always carry with you some packs of disposable medicated wet wipes to use on public seats, areas where you touch, baggage handles or washroom fixtures-for the case of public washroom utilities. You can also effectively wad of germs by going the dettol way- washing your hands every time you visit the toilet or if you want to eat.

Avoid contact with infected persons.

During the on-set of this traveling season, it is almost inevitable to find yourself in crowded places such as the airports or bus station, not unless you choose not to travel at all. If you are sitting in the waiting lounge, ensure you sit as close as possible to fresh air spaces in the room. Air in these places are highly contaminated with cold flu germs.

Sometimes you board a bus and find that your seatmate is continuously sneezing. If there is still more time before departure, consider changing your sit or talk to the bus officials. They may agree to find you another sit at a small cost, but it's worth it.

Some first class bus companies come with attendant-supplied comfort items such as pillows, or blankets. These items, sometimes, are used by many people before they are cleaned or replaced. You could choose to bring your own aboard.

In the airplanes, passengers continuously roam around the cabin on long flights. The aisles and bathroom surfaces are full of microscopic germs. Put your shoes and socks on.

When you arrive at your destination, empty the suitcase or baggage in an open area, disinfect the inside and wash all clothes used during the trip. If you are showing any early symptoms of cold flu, take some piriton allergy tablets or see a doctor if it gets worse.
