This paper is divided into three sections A,B and C.
Answer THREE questions from each section.
Section A(24 Marks)
1. Comment on the view that the history of education is of limited value to the improvement of modern education.
Critically examine the relevance of Christianity to Grecco-Roman civilization and the key structures of institution established by the Christian church in the middle ages.
3. Assess the contribution and relevance of Johann Friedrich Herbart to the development of the theory and practice of modern education.
SECTION B.(23 Marks)
4.Discuss the Phelps stokes commission report in Africa in the early 1920s under the following.
a)Background
b) Terms of reference
c) Findings
d) Recommendations
5.Describe the main features of reform in formulation of policies on education in Africa during the 1945-1960 period.Illustrate your answer with examples.
6.Outline and discuss principle factor which led to the World Conference on Education for ALL(EFA) held at Jomtien, Thailand, in 1990 and assess its impact in the development of primary education in Africa.
SECTION C.
Identify and discuss the policies and philosophy which governed the establishment and development of education in Kenya up to 1920.
In what respect did the second world war affect the development of education in Kenya from 1945 to independence?
9.The introduction of the free primary education in Kenya in 2003 was yet another attempt to universalizing primary education in the country with limited success. Critically discuss this statement.
