• Answer any THREE Questions

1. In your new job as an assistant lecturer, you are assigned to teach an upper level
undergraduate course on motivation theory. The course is a 7 week (half semester) module
course. Most of your students are taking a postgraduate diploma in education.
Develop a syllabus for this course, including:
a. A description of the class
b. An overview of the major topics and theoretical perspectives included
c. Key readings
d. Major assignments that would demonstrate their knowledge of motivation theory
and its application into the classroom.
e. How does your course structure reflect your own beliefs about motivation?

2. The role of “experience” in education has been discussed, criticized, and interrogated from
many different perspectives in the field of curriculum theory. Choose three curriculum
perspectives you have come across and: (a) Describe the nature and significance of
experience in relation to the conception of curriculum and the desired educational outcomes
promoted by this perspective; (b) Describe specific instructional methods consistent with this
understanding of experience; and (c) critically assess the perspective, based on your own
views of the relationship between experience and education.

3. In designing a suitable and relevant curriculum, curriculum planners should always consider
certain factors influential in the process. Discuss five of these factors explaining how each
affects curriculum design in Kenya or in your country of residence.

4. a) Curriculum Innovations can be successful if they are planned effectively. What elements or resources are needed in order to ensure that the implementation is a success?
b) What are the basic steps involved in implementing any significant change in the curriculum?
