SECTION A 50 MARKS

3. What is the difference between Defragmenting and disk clean up? 2marks
4. Define the word ‘Operating system. Give four functions of an operating system? 3 marks
5. 10marks
a) Define the word windows explorer, what is its function.
b) Define the word ‘Formatting’ why is it important to format a disk
c) What is a program?
d) What are the vital contents of “my computer”?
6. Why do we give file names extensions? Give 3 examples of file name extensions 4marks
7. Differentiate between a System software and Application Software. 5 marks
List three Application software and explain their purpose?
8.
i. How would you recover an important file you have deleted by mistake? 2marks
ii. Explain the procedure of adding a program into your computer. 4 marks
iii. You want to set date format of your system to look like “DD\MM\YY” explain the steps to be followed? 3marks
iv. Explain the steps one would use when he/she want to ‘move’ a Folder from one location to another 5 marks
SECTION B PRACTICAL 30 MARKS
Read the following instructions and answer the questions bellow.
? The parent folder is called GOVERNMENT MINISTRIES
? A folder GOVERNMENT MINISTRIES has three folders namely: MINISTRY OF HEALTH, MINISTRY OF EDUCATION and MINISTRY OF FINANCE.
? Folder MINISTRY OF HEALTH contains three other folders, MTC, HOSPITALS, and CHEMISTS.
? Folder MINISTRY OF EDUCATION has three folders that are: TEACHER COLLEGES, PRIMARY SCHOOLS, AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS.
? Folder ministry of finance contains folder RBA, KRA, and CBK.
Question one
a) Create folders according to the instructions given above and ensure that folders are structured as they are supposed to be.
b) Draw the hard copy on the plain paper for your structure above.
Question two
i.
a) Copy folder CHEMISTS to HOSPITALS to using edit menu copy and paste, RBA to CBK using edit menu cut and paste and SECONDARY SCHOOLS to TEACHER COLLEGES by dragging.
b) Move folder PRIMARY SCHOOLS to MINISTRY OF FINANCE by dragging.
Nb:
? You should be able to see the two folders at the same time before you could drag.
? The PRIMARY SCHOOLS folder should remain in folder MINISTRY OF EDUCATION.
c) Delete subfolder KRA from MINISTRY OF FINANCE.
d) Rename folder MINISTRY OF EDUCATION to ” LITERACY”, MINISTRY OF HEALTH to “M.O.H”, and folder of MINISTRY OF FINANCE to “FEDHA.”
ii. Draw the final copy on the plain paper as the end result for the above modified structure.
