Admission requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Science (Food Science and Technology) shall be:

1. Holders of KCSE with a mean grade of C+ with passes at C+ or above in Biology or Biological Sciences, Physics and Chemistry or Physicals Sciences and Mathematics. In order to satisfy the cluster, for candidates offering pure sciences, Mathematics may be alternated with any of the subjects shown, while for candidates offering Biological Sciences the fourth subject may be selected from the same subjects:

Geography
Building Construction
Home Science
Power Mechanics
Agriculture
Electricity
Woodwork
Drawing and Design
Metal Work
Aviation Technology



2. Holders of KACE or equivalent with minimum 2 Principal passes in Biology and Chemistry and at least a subsidiary pass in Mathematics or Physics.

3. Holders of Diploma or equivalent in relevant sciences from a recognized institution with passes at credit or distinction.

4.Holders of any relevant degree other than Food Science & Technology or Nutritional Sciences.
Duration

The Teaching for the degree shall extend over not less than four academic years, each year consisting of two teaching semesters.

-Each student shall be required to take relevant industrial Attachment for a minimum period of eight weeks after completion of the third year of study and before entering the fourth year of study.

- In the second semester of the fourth year of study, each student shall be required to carry out a Special Research Project Relevant to the area of Food Science and Technology.
The program comprises of the following key elements:
(i) Food processing.

(ii) Food preservation.

(iii) Food storage.

Some of the areas covered are:
(i) Organic Chemistry.

(ii) Inorganic Chemistry.

(iii) Food Engineering I and II.

(iv) Beverage Technology.

(v) Nutrition Education.

(vi) Food Packaging Technology.

Entry requirements
(a) A minimum of C+ in each of the following subjects:
(i) Physics.

(ii) Chemistry.

(iii) Biology and Mathematics or Geography OR C+ in each of the following subjects:

(i) Biological Sciences.

(ii) Physical Sciences.

(iii) Mathematics and Geography or any of the Group IV subjects at K.C.S.E. or its equivalent.

(b) A Diploma in Food Technology from a recognized college with a credit pass.

Minimum requirements
-Applicants are required
to be holding any one of
the qualifications below:
(a)A minimum of C+ in KCSE
with C+ in each one of the
subjects below:
(i)Biology or biological sciences
(ii)Maths
(iii)Physics and chemistry or physical
sciences.

(b)At least two principal passes in
biology and chemistry and at least
a subsidiary pass in maths or physics
at KACE level.

(c)A diploma in relevant discipline
from a recognized institution with
either a credit or a distinction.

(d)A relevant degree from a recognized
university

Entry requirements:-
Candidates must, in satisfying the minimum entrance requirements for the University, offer passes at B- or above in Biology or B in Biological Sciences, B- or above in Chemistry and Physics or B in Physical Science and B- in Mathematics. The duration of study for the degree programme shall extend over not less than four academic years, each year consisting of two teaching semesters.

Holders of a diploma food technology will
be considered for admission provided they

Requirements for admission:
A minimum KCSE grade of C+(Plus) with a minimum of C English/Kiswahili, C in Physics, Chemistry and Biology or B- in physical science and Biological science.
