QUESTION ONE – (30 MARKS)
(a) Write short notes on the following as they relate to software programming and use. (i) SaaS (Software as a service) (3 Marks) (ii) Grid computing (3 Marks) (iii) Cloud computing (3 Marks) (b) Discuss the future of the local data centres in light of the recent trends in SaaS. (5 Marks) (c) Human Computer Interaction (HCI) is a major factor in any successful deployment of both hardware and software. HCI is thus used to design a number of hardware in the current business world. A leading bank in the country approaches you to make suggestions to their intended upgrade of the next generation Automated Teller Machines (ATM) amid claims of Page1 of 3 increased fraud and user complains. Discuss these recommendations in well-structured report. (10 Marks) (d) Briefly discuss at least five solutions you recommend to curb software piracy. (6 Marks)

(b) As Project Manager you have been told to reduce the overall project duration of the above project by 4 days. You first decide to reduce each of the tasks on the critical path by one day each, but find that is not enough. Explain why this is the case, and suggest what else you would need to do to achieve the target. (5 Marks) (c) What additional information would be needed to use the Program Evaluation and Review technique (PERT) for the above project? (5 Marks)
QUESTION THREE – (20 MARKS)
(a) Piracy is a major concern in Programming. Piracy may usually occur at different software levels including the Operating System and Commercial Applications. There is a growing concern in government that the commercial software’s are too expensive. As a consultant, advice the government on the benefits and risks of commercial operating systems against the freeware. In your discussion discuss recommendation the software the government should implement giving reasons for your choice. (15 Marks) (b) There are number of free ware operating systems in the market today. Discuss why organizations would still insist on Piracy even with the heavy presence of this freeware software’s. (5 Marks)

Using a software tool of your choice discuss the features of a Project Planning Software. (10 Marks) (b) Testing of software is considered critical before any implementation of software. Discuss with the examples the types of testing you are aware of. (5 Marks) (c) What are the dangers of deploying software without it having under gone proper testing? (5 Marks)
