MARKING SCHEME

1. a) The activities that took place during the dedication of Jesus in the temple. (Luke 2:22:40)
- Jesus was taken to Jerusalem to be presented to the Lord by his parents
- Simeon took Jesus up in arms/ blessed the lord
- Simeon said that he was ready to die for he had seen God’s salvation/ light for revelation to the gentiles/ glory to the Israelites
- Simeon blessed the parents of Jesus
- Simeon told Mary Jesus mother that the child was sent for the fall and rising of many Israel.
- Anna gave thanks/ prayed/spoke of Jesus to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem
- The parents of Jesus performed everything according to the lord/offered a pair of the turtle doves and pigeons
- Parents of Jesus returned home.

b) The similarities between the annunciation of the birth of John the Baptist and Jesus.
- Gabriel delivered both messages.
- Mary and Zechariahs were afraid
- Both questioned the possibility of the message
- Zechariahs and Mary were righteous people
- The angle Gabriel gave the names of the children to be born.
- Mary and Zechariah were given signs to confirm the message.
- Both children to be sons/males
- Both children would be great in their mission.

c) Ways in which parents develop their children’s spiritual life.
- By having the children baptized/ participate in the sacramental if of the church
- Leading righteous life for the child to copy/ being role models
- Taking children to church for dedication/ thanks giving
- By allowing him/her to interact with other e,g during Sunday school.
- Praying to God to guide the child
- By exposing the child to church activities
- By condemning the child’s evil activities/ correcting them

2a) Why Jesus was rejected in the synagogue at Nazareth after reading from the book of Isaiah.
- The reading from Isaiah was about the work of the Messiah. Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah would be sent by God.
- The Messiah’s mission was to bring salvation to the oppressed and restore sight to the blind. His mission was to bring freedom to captives.
- Jesus claimed that the prophecy had been fulfilled that day. This meant that he was promised Messiah.
- Jesus challenged their unbelief by quoting two incidents from the old Testament.
- The stories were about God’s prophets, Elijah and Elisha, who were rejected by the Israelites yet they were accepted by Gentiles.
- The people were surprised for they knew Him as the son of Joseph, the carpenter
- The people realized that He was condemning their unfaithfulness. He compared them unfavourably with the despised Gentiles.
- Jesus explained that prophets are not accepted in their home areas.
- The got furious with Jesus and tried to kill Him. They led Jesus out of the city with the intention of killing Him. However, their plan failed.

b) The healing of Gerasene Demoniac.
- Jesus and his disciples arrived in the Country of the Gerasenes after sailing across the sea of Galilee.
- A man possessed by demon met him from the city. The demons had no clothes, and he lived among the tombs
-When he saw Jesus he fall before him and loudly said, ”what have you to do with me, Jesus
- the man had been bound in chains and fetters and kept under guard and many times the demons seized him, and he broke the chains and ran away into desert.
- Jesus asked the man his name
- The demoniac answered, Legion,’ because many demons had entered him
- They begged Jesus to send them into the pigs which were feeding on the hillside so Jesus let them leave
- The demons left the man, entered the swine and animals ran and drowned in the sea.
-When the herdsmen saw what had happened the fled and told it the city and country.
- Then people came out to Jesus to see what had happened. They found the man whom had demons left clothed and sitting at Jesus ‘feet, in his right might.
- They were afraid hence the people asked Jesus to leave their territory
- Jesus got into the boat and returned.
- The man who was healed wanted to accompany Jesus but Jesus told him to go and proclaim to other how much God had done for him.

c) Challenges faced by Christians while spreading the gospel
- Traditional practices that are not biblical acceptable e.g polygamy
- Inadequate funds for evangelization
- Science and technology innovations that may erode Christians faith
- Denominational differences
-Lack of adequate faith
- Political instability/ interference
- Politics in the church/ wrangle

3a) preparations Jesus made for the Lord’s supper (Luke 22 :7 - 13)
- On the day of Passover lamb, unleavened bread
-Jesus send two disciples – John and Peter to prepare for the lord’s supper.
- The two asked where they would prepare it.
- Jesus answered that they were to enter into the city.
- They would see a man carrying a jar of water
- They were to follow him into the house he enters.
- They were to tell the house keeper to show them where to prepare the last supper.
- the housekeeper were to show them an upper room well furnished
- The disciples went and found as Jesus had told them.
- They prepared and set the table for Jesus and remaining disples.

b) Steps taken by the Jews to have Jesus Crucified.
- They paid judas Iscariot to betray him
- They organized with the soldiers and high priests to arrest him at night,
- They hurriedly charged him and did not allow him to call witnesses
- They accused him of blasphemy and treason which were punishable by death
- They forced Simon of Cyrene to carry his cross so as to speed up His execution.
- They bargained for the release of Barabbas who was on death row instead of Jesus Christ.
- They blackmailed Pilate to have Jesus crucified or they report him to Casear.

c) Lessons Christians learn from Jesus response to the Sadducees question on resurrection Lk 20: 27 – 40.
- There is no marriage life after death.
- Resurrection is an assurance that there is life after death
- The resurrection life is different from earthly.
- The righteous will resurrect are like angles and their body will be transformed into spiritual bodies.
- Those who will resurrect will become children of God.

4a) Teaching about Jesus from Peters speech on the day of Pentecost. (Acts 2: 14 - 36)
- Jesus was from Nazareth
- Jesus had divined nature.
- Jesus was empowered by God to perform miracles/wonders through the Holy Spirits
- Jesus death was according to Gods plan
- God raised Jesus from death
- The death and resurrection of Jesus fulfilled the prophesy of David.
- The Holy spirit is a gift from Jesus
- Jesus was a descendant of David
- Jesus is exalted in glory/ He is lord.

b) Teachings about Christ’s relationship with the church from the concept of the Bride in the New Testament
- Christians are the bride married to Christ.
- Christ as the divined bridegroom seeks Christians
- Christians have entered into a perfect relationship with Christ.
- The union between Christ and Christians is life long
- Christians should prepare to receive Christ.
- During the final establishment of the kingdom of God, Christ will take the church to new home (heaven)
- Christ and the church will live in unity and love in the new home.
- Christians who remain obedient to God’s will be rewarded

C) Factors which threatens unity in the church today
- Misuse of spiritual gifts
- Struggle for leadership/ formation of splint groups.
- Misuse of church funds
- Traditional and cultural interferences
- The churchs stands on certain issues such as abortion and gay marriages
- Appointment of women as leaders
- Different beliefs about resurrection
- Discrimination in the church
- Difference in the practice of baptism
- Misinterpretation of scriptures causes disagreement













5a) Christians teaching on marriage.
- Ordained by God /blessed/gift from God
- Marriage was procreation
- Marriage was for companionship
- It should be permanent
- It should be between husband and wife
- They should respect and love each other,
- Faithfulness should be upheld.
- It cannot be dissolved/divorced not allowed
= Couples should not deny each other conjugal right.
- Husband is the head of the family.

b) Causes of Prostitution in Kenya today.
= When sexual demand is not met in a marriage relationship
- Peer influence,
- Separation of couple due to employment or divorce
- Lack of income to earn living
- Unemployment
- Poverty

c) Ways in which Christians can rehabilitate those recovering from drug abuse
- Pray for them that they may reform
- Visit them and give them encouragement
- guide and counsel them to find the root cause of their problems and know how to deal with it
- Preach the good news of salvation to them.
- Love and accept them as they are
- Occupy them with something useful to do i.e enroll them in a college or vocation institute where they can learn practical skills
- Take them to hospital for medical attention
- Involve them in active leisure

6a) How wealth is acquired in ATS
