Rural-Urban Migration is the movement of people from the rural areas to urban centers.

Some of the causes of Rural-Urban migration includes:

1)To look for Employment
2)Some move from rural areas to urban areas for adventure
3)Lack of or inadequate social amenities in the Rural areas prompting people to migrate to urban where they can easily find.for Example, electricity, infrastructure,Schools, recreational centers. e.g zoo, stadium, amusement park etc.
4)Inadequate investment situations in the rural areas

Rural to Urban migration has been a headache to all governments in the developing countries. With the above causes of Rural to Urban migration the following solutions can be inputted in order to remedy the situation.

Solution to problem(1)above

In order to remedy the situation of lack of job opportunities in the rural areas the government can adopt the system of relocating and establishment of industries in the rural areas. This will open job opportunities for the people living in the rural areas hence reducing unemployment in the rural areas therefore reducing rural to urban migration.

Solution to problem(2)above

To curb the problem of people migrating as a result of adventure, the Government should set-up structures in the rural areas that largely influence individuals from relocating to urban areas thus holding them back in the rural areas hence reduction in the number of people migrating to urban areas

Solution to problem(3)above

In order to reduce and curb the problem of inadequate social amenities in the rural areas, the following should be done:
a) The government should improve the road networks in the rural areas to allow easy movement of goods and people from one place to the other hence boosting business in the rural areas thus reducing rural to urban migration.
b) The Government should also make available other recreational facilities in the rural areas like construction of decent schools and supply electricity. This will reduce the number of people relocating to rural areas to further education

Hence reducing rural to Urban migration.

Solution to problem(4)above

In order to reduce rural to urban migration as a result of inadequate investment situations in the rural areas the Government should establish investment schemes in the rural areas for the people in the rural areas to access investment programs within their locality hence reducing the number of people moving to the urban areas.

Rural-urban migration has negative consequences.

It leads to overpopulation of the urban areas thus encouraging crime in the society. Those who engage in crime prefer the urban areas being turgid with wealthy individuals.

Rural-urban migration slows down the rate of development of the rural areas since the youths who are supposed to provide for labour relocate to urban areas leaving the old at the rural areas whom productivity is much lower compared to the youth.

Rural -Urban migration leads to emergence of Slum dwellers in the urban areas as a result of lack of a job opportunities in the urban areas and the individual need to survive. Therefore the individual turns to cheap way of living hence living in scanty building structures.

In view of the negative consequences, Government of each country in the world should strive to provide social amenities and facilities in the rural areas and also provide jobs for the citizens in the rural areas Hence curbing the overall Rural to Urban migration.
