Entry requirements:

The common regulations for Master’s the University of Nairobi shall apply.

Candidates shall be holders of Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry or Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry combined
with another science subject with a minimum of an Upper Second Class Honours and with at least a credit (60%) in Biochemistry.

Candidates shall be holders of Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry or Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry combined
with another science subject at a Lower Second Class Honours may also be considered provided he/she produces evidence of having
worked for at least two years in a biochemistry laboratory or a closely- related laboratory.

Candidates shall be holders of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery or Bachelor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Dental Surgery or
Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine with at least a credit (65%) in Biochemistry.

Candidates shall be holders of an equivalent degree from another university recognized by University of Nairobi
senate. This shall be determined based upon presentation of authentic examination transcripts.

TRANSFER OF CREDITS
Common regulations for credit transfer of the University of Nairobi shall apply.
A candidate may be allowed to transfer credit for up to a maximum of one third of the courses offered in part I (two (2) courses). No candidate shall be exempted from the course coded MB 506 Biochemical Techniques which is laboratory based.
Applicants seeking transfer of credit shall send a formal application to the Director, Board of Postgraduate Studies through the Dean, School of Medicine and Chairman, Department of Biochemistry, seeking transfer of credit, giving justification for the request, and attach evidence of testimonials which support such a request.

Application for transfer of credit shall be processed only after payment of the prescribed fees.

The course(s) to be transferred must also have been taken and passed at graduate level at a senate-recognized university and shall have similar content and contact hours as the one for which credit transfer is desired. Evidence of course content and contact hours shall be attached to the application.

Duration: 2 Years
Admission requirements
- Admission will be granted to
applicants holding Bachelor of science degree with an upper second class or an equivalent grade in
any one of the disciplines below:
(i)Agriculture
(ii)Animal production
(iii)Range management
(iv)Veterinary medicine or any other relevant discipline

Applicants with lower second class and relevant experience and scientific
publications in refereed journals may be recommended for admission.

In certain situations, the candidate may be required to take some prescribed undergraduate
courses in which a pass with a B grade shall be a requirement for granting admission.

-To qualify for this program,
applicants are expected to hold
any of the qualifications below:
(a)A bachelor of education or science with
at least second class upper division and has
studied biochemistry to a degree level.

(b)At least second class,lower division degree
in the above areas.Applicants having qualifications
in (b) above may be admitted as long as they have a
minimum of two years work experience in a relevant field or
can show proven evidence of research ability.

Course duration
- Eighteen months
The program deals with the
study of chemical processes
taking place in living organisms.

Entry requirements
- Interested students are required to hold BSc degree with an upper second class or an equivalent grade in
biochemistry or its equivalent.Applicants holding other relevant qualifications may be admitted after approval
by the senate.

Graduation requirements
- To graduate, a student shall be required to take and pass all scheduled courses within the stipulated period.

- The program takes two years
Entry requirements
-Students are required to be in possession of a degree in biochemistry,with at least second class honors upper division with a credit B in biochemistry or
- Hold a degree in biochemistry with second class honors lower division combined with another science subject but with a credit B in biochemistry plus an evidence of having worked for three years in biochemistry or its equivalent or
- Hold any degree in agriculture or medical field but with a credit B in biochemistry subjects

- 1 year
(a) B.Sc. in Biochemistry with a Second Class Honours Upper Division from an institution recognized by UoE Senate, OR

(b) Holders of Second Class Honours Lower Division in the above areas with 2 years work experience or two research publications or a relevant Postgraduate Diploma.
