Enuresis is also known as bed-wetting. Nearly every parent deals with the problem at some point in the development of their children.It is a common condition that often causes concern,especially when it seems to go on for long.Enuresis generally takes to forms;

1.Primary enuresis is where control of the bladder has never been attained and can be related to a physically/neurologically immature bladder or a deep sleeping pattern.Children who suffer from primary enuresis often sleep deeply and are not aware of the message the bladder sends to the brain saying it is full.It is presumed that bed wetting sometimes can be inherited.Children with attention deficit disorder,learning disabilities or allergies are also more likely to experience enuresis than normal children.

2.Secondary enuresis where a child who once had control of the bladder looses control because of a particular reason. Children who have been dry at night for a considerable period of time may have occasional episodes of bed wetting. These are usually related to stresses in a child's life and normally clear up on their own.
Common causes;

Three of the more common events likely to cause to cause enuresis in young children include hospitalization,joining school and the birth of a sibling.Children may also experience stress from such family problems as divorce,parental alcoholism,financial pressure as well as abuse and neglect.If bed wetting goes on for an unusually long time it is advisable to consult your child's doctor because the cause may require diagnosis and treatment.The cause may require diagnosis and treatment.

The causes of bed wetting are often physical or psychological.
1.Physical causes
-Nervous system disorders.
-Urinary tract infections which is common in both adults and children.
-Anatomical problems,this would include any deformity of the bladder or of the outer tract.
-Abnormalities in the spinal cord.
-Metabolic conditions such as diabetes or constipation.
2.Psychological causes.
-Stress,for example,arising from the loss of a parent or

someone close to the child,divorce or marital strife,serious illness of someone.
-Repressed anger,which is the inability to express anger because of fear or punishment or cases of sibling rivalry.
-Difficulties waking up from sleep.
-Achievement concerns such as being pushed too hard to achieve good grades.

Parents can help their children to reduce negative feelings about their bed wetting condition and speed up the process of overcoming it,by offering positive support,understanding and encouragement.The best advice for parents trying to deal with their child's bed wetting problem is to remember that children rarely wet on purpose.In almost all cases,they feel shamed about it.Making the child feel bad or embarrassed does not help.Instead encourage the child that he or she will soon be able to enjoy dry nights.Many pediatricians give the following helpful steps to parents with bed wetting children.
-Limit liquids before bedtime.
-Praise the child on dry mornings.
-Avoid punishment.
-Encourage the child to go to the bathroom before bed time.
-During the night wake the child to go to the bathroom.
