How to motivate your students to academic excellence

In Kenya, there are so many teachers who work hard in order to improve the results of their students. Most of them actually manage to make their students to get great results in their exams. However, there are a few of them who wonder how they could ever motivate their students to excel in their exams. This is because there are so many students in Kenya who never get the chance to continue with their studies not because they cannot afford it but simply because they have not understood what they had been taught earlier. Therefore, if you are a teacher and you would like to know what you can do to motivate your students to pass their exams, then I think you are reading the right article. The following are some of the ways in which you can motivate your students to excel in their exams.

1) Tell them stories of the known legends in different fields of education.
Students and everyone else likes to have a role model. Someone whom their can think about and try to reach the person’s level because he or she did something very great in their lives. As for students, not all of them have a role model who can inspire them to study very hard while at school. Therefore, give your students their role model. Tell them of the people in the past who accomplished great things and even discovered wonderful things in science and other fields in education. This might motivate them or make them aspire to be like these great people.

2) Show them what education is used to do.
What we learn at school, be it chemistry or even physics is not just for fun. It is used out there in the world to make money, make people’s

lives easier and to improve the whole world in general. To motivate your students to read even harder, take them to places where the simple science and the simple things taught at school are used by various people or various organizations to do very great and very important things.

3) Make them feel comfortable during your lesson.
It is very easy to do anything including studying in a safe and harmonious environment. However, when the environment is like a war zone, then people use so much of their energy fighting and trying to show that they are better than the other people that they forget what is really important. It is the same at school. If you are rude and too strict on your students, then they might not feel like reading your subject because it reminds them of you and your bad moods and attitude. However, if you make your students feel like your lesson is just a free time where the students get to comfortably learn and discuss with you what they find difficult in your subject and in the school in general, then your students will always feel motivated to read more and to study more in your subject.

All in all, always remember that if you know that there is a particular thing which might lower your academic performance if you were a student and you keep on doing it to them, get ready to see your students failing their exams.
