Maximum marks for all the sections are as associated.

1.(a) State the triangle of forces theorem.
(2 marks)
(b) State the polygon of forces theorem.
(2 marks)
(c) A load of 200N is lifted by two ropes connected to the same point on the road, making angles of 40° with the vertical downwards. Determine graphically the tensions in each rope when the system is in equilibrium. (6 marks)
(d) Three coplanar forces act at a point;
Force A, 12 N acting horizontally to the right;
Force B, 7N inclined at 60° to force A;
Force c, 15 N inclined at 150° to force A.
Determine graphically the magnitude and direction of their resultant force.
(10 marks)
2.(a) State any four laws of dry friction.
(4 marks)
(b) State THREE advantages and three disadvantages of friction in engineering.
(6 marks)
(c) The coefficient of between a body and a plane 0.25 .Determine the angle at which the plane must be inclined so that the body , having moved, will move down the plane at a constant velocity. (2 marks)
(d) A body of weight 16 N is to be propelled up a plane inclined at 30° at constant velocity. Calculate the force required when the force is applied:
(i) parallel to the plane.
(ii) horizontally.
(8 marks)
3(a) Define :
(i) Velocity.
(ij) acceleration.
(4 marks)
(b) A force of 50 N acts on a body if mass 200kg .Determine the acceleration of the body.
(3 marks)
(c) A vehicle accelerates from rest to a speed of 72 km/h in 7.5 s. Its speed then remain constant for the next 15s before the vehicle is brought to rest in a distance of 120 m.
Draw the velocity-time graph and determine:
(i) the acceleration of the vehicle.
(ii) the total distance covered.
(iii) the average velocity for the entire distance.
