1. Evaluate
a) 3pq^2r^3 when p= 2/3 , q=-2 and r= -1
b) 4xy^2+3y^2-xyz when x=1,y= 2 and z=3

2) A rectangle has length of 20 cm and a width of y cm. When it''s width is reduced by 4 cm , it''s area became 160 cm^2 .Find the original width and the area of rectangle.

3.) a) By completing the squire method solve the quadratic equation.
i) 3x^2+7x-5=0
ii) ax^2 +bx +c =0

b) A man bought 20 kg of maize and 30 kg of beans at a total cost of shs. 2500 from a cereal shop. A lady bought from the same shop 40 kg maize and 50 kg beans at a total cost of shs. 4400.
calculate the prices of a kg of a maize and a kg of beans.

b) x^2 - 4x +4 =0

5) The area of a triangle is 47.6 cm^2 . It''s perpendicular height is 4.3 cm more than its base length. Determine the length of the base correct to 3.s.f

6) a) The sag S at the centre of a wire is given by
S= 3d(LD) /8
Make L the subject and evaluate L when S= 0.8 and d = 1.75
b) Transpose Q=R (1+ UV) and make U the subject.

7. a) Determine the values of l1 and l2 in the equation below.

b) Jane and Susan cycle to a station 20 km a way. Susan cycles 2 km/h faster than Jane and reaches there half an hour earlier. At what speed did Jane and Susan cycle?
