INSTRUCTIONS:

Answer all Questions in Section A and choose any two Questions in Section B.

SECTION A:

1. Define the term tourism promotion and list two of its importance to an economy.
[2 marks]

2. Tourism promotion can be achieved through the adaptation of a number of promotional tools. Give two examples of the most effective promotional tools. Give reasons for your answer. [4 marks]

3. Distinguish between the economic and the psychological theories of buyers’ behaviour.
[4 marks]

4. Tourism being an intangible product, a promise becomes an important tool for marketing. Explain the disadvantages of exaggerated promises during Tourism promotion.
[4 marks]

5. In Tourism promotion, wining consumer confidence is not easy. Briefly explain four strategies which can effectively boost consumer buying confidence levels. [4 marks]

6. Any Hotelier may set standards to maintain quality during service performance, but the judgment of quality is on the hands of consumers. Briefly discuss. [6 marks]

7. Variability is one service characteristic challenging hospitality managers in the service delivery process. Explain how a manager will manage its challenges. [6 marks]

8. (a) To ensure acceptance of Tourism product one needs to understand the consumer’s
values, satisfaction levels and quality judgment. Discuss the statement.
[10 marks]

(b) International restaurants have adopted franchising as a form of distribution of
their services, explain five of its advantages ad disadvantages. [10 marks]

9. Recently, a number of restaurants have shifted some of their promotional budget from advertising to public relations. What benefits does public relations offer that will make restaurants spend more. [10 marks]

10. (a) Being an external customer, the community should be encouraged to support
tourism activities at a destination. Briefly explain the benefits of tourism to the community. [8 marks]

(b) Tourism products have the same characteristics as those of living things. They
are born, grows and die. Explain the marketing strategies adopted in the product life cycle to maximize on revenue. [12 marks]
