1. (a) “The Classical Approach to Management has given rise to the „Principles of Management? as laid down by Mr. Henri Fayol.” Discuss. [10 marks]
(b) The modern approaches to management have been built upon a certain set key foundations. Explain, clearly, what these key foundations are as well as their most prominent features. [10 marks]
(c) “A progressive manager appreciates that complexities/problems are „opportunities in disguise? and that to achieve one?s goals and objectives, one needs to „skillfully negotiate? such complexities/problems.”
In this regard, illustrate clearly, the problem finding process that business managers should adopt. [10 marks]
2. (a) In Management, the best decisions are said to be those that are taken rationally and objectively and not emotionally and subjectively. In this context, bring out the ideal decision-making process that managers in modern industries should adopt. [10 marks]

(b) You had applied for a position as an intern (managerial assistant) at Apex Manufacturing Company. The firm?s general manager has invited you for an interview at which one of the questions put to you was to distinguish clearly the concepts of Contingency Planning and Scenario Planning. Elaborate. [10 marks]
3. (a) Company E has been facing serious barriers to its communication process. Further, the company has failed to make progress in identifying the specific guidelines it can use to overcome (improve) barriers to its communication process.
Study the above statement carefully, bring out the possible barriers that Firm E faces in its communication process and show how such barriers can be overcome.
(b) Provide an illustration of the probable relationship between an organization?s culture and management practice within two (or more) different sets of environments. [9 mark]
4. (a) “Staffing is an important management function that is concerned with „filling and keeping filled? positions in the organization structure; this is done through recruitment and selection”.
In this regard, identify and explain the specific process of selection that modern organizations should adopt. [10 marks]
(b) A firm should have effective controls to help monitor and evaluate its activities. Discuss, them, the requirements for effective controls. [10 marks]
