Value of Education

Introduction

Education entails a transfer of skills, knowledge, and habits from one generation or people to others through teaching, training, and research. It is a central passage for children in almost all societies. Education can either be formal or informal. Formal education involves leaning based on a particular curriculum in an institutionalized setting. The value obtained from training varies from one person to another. To some individuals, the value may mean the number of job opportunities available after graduation. Others may value it in terms of monetary gain received. The value could also indicate an ability to boost social capital, political power or authority, and human benefits. However, various scholars and organizations have come on board to condemn and criticize the existing educational programs. Some have argued that formal education interferes with the personal ability to think and reason on their own to find solutions to life problems. In my experience, I believe education has multiple benefits. During the time I have been in a college, I feel education has great value to a personal life because it fosters knowledge empowerment, healthy living, creates employment, facilitates an avenue for cultural and social transmission, promotes an independent life and promotes discoveries and innovation.

Value of education based on personal experiences

Education is a source of knowledge. It empowers individuals with skills to accomplish tasks and seek a solution to environmental challenges. Education helps people gain knowledge of the surrounding environment. Through the acquired skills and knowledge, one can alter the world into something better. There is information in the world. But the information can only be converted into knowledge through education. It develops both a sound mind and a sound body. College has opened my mind. I can now reason and make a personal decision. Furthermore, I can explain and interpret

some natural phenomenon such as eclipses, reproduction, and the functioning of ecosystems. While at the college I have gained essential life skills such as communication, interpersonal, computer, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Class assignments, group works and co-curricular activities while at the college all have played a critical role in shaping my attitude. My approaches towards life problem have changed. I can conduct a situational analysis to make forecasts.

Education enhances an independent life. It established a way of approaching life from a personal perspective. It enables people to have their opinions and point of view regarding life, environment and what it entails. I am capable of interpreting various phenomenons in life because of education. It is not all about what many people view education as classroom lessons, but it is more about life. Education allows human beings to make the most out of their surroundings with the aim of leading a better life. The good life is not all about meeting material needs, but also living an integrated life, that is a life with a purpose. In my experience at the college, I have understood what I should pursue and struggle for in order to lead a significant life. Leading an independent life while at the school has enabled me to learn how to plan, budget and meet personal needs.

Education facilitates an avenue for both cultural and social transmission. The existence of all communities is credited to culture. Education ensures the continuation of such culture. It passes the cultural norms and principles of a specific society onto the next generation. Besides that, through education, people especially young generation get an opportunity to learn and appreciates other people's culture. In other words, education creates unity. It fosters a peaceful life among individuals with different cultural backgrounds. I have learned to appreciate the contemplation of ultimate truth, beauty, and goodness. The outcome is perfect happiness. I am now a culturally competent professional as a result of interacting with people of diverse culture at the college. I possess the ability to serve people without showing any form of disrespect to their traditional beliefs and practices. On social life, education allows people to fit into different life stages. Social education is continuous that allows one to alter personal behavior and activities to fit in the society. Personally, I had to do away with my way of doing things after joining the campus. The ways things were being done at the college was very different from my prior understanding. It is through education that I have adapted and learned how to go about it. I am now in a better position to socialize freely with people from different places of the globe.

Education promotes technological development, discoveries and innovations. Education serves to open room for technological advancement in various fields such as agriculture, medicine, telecommunication, production and manufacturing industries. For instance, the increased use of mobile phones, personal computers, and advanced technology in surgeries is courtesy of formal education. In my personal experience, education has helped me to boost agricultural production. For a long time in our rural home, we have been using traditional farming methods. Through teaching, I came to learn how to use biotechnology such an artificial insemination to improve the animal breed.

Education fosters healthy living. By investing in education, one finances good health. It is clear that educated individuals lead a healthier lifestyle. They are more likely to live longer as compared to their counterparts with either low or no formal education. Education teaches people about healthy habits like eating a balanced diet and engaging in regular physical exercise. In my experience, I have been able to maintain a healthy eating lifestyle in the family after gaining the knowledge through education. Some of my family members and relatives have had a persistence problem of obesity and overweight. After attending various lessons in the field of health, I have been to help them solve the issues. The entire matter was a result of poor nutrition and unhealthy eating habits. Also, it helps people maintain good health by defining the importance of attending regular medical checkups. I can admit that I have learned a lot in the entire educational life I have on how to solve some fundamental health issues. As a scout back in the high school, a role that I still do, I learned some necessary first aid measures. Now am in a better position to help the society during an emergency as we wait for experts to arrive.

Conclusion
Education is of great value in personal life at different levels. It increases earning, improves health and living standards at an individual level. At the business level, it increases productivity and efficiency in operations. Finally, it has a robust civil contribution to the society. Regardless of the benefits, formal education has had some adverse influence on the community life. People have turned away from some traditional practices that are still beneficial. Formal education has also shifted people's focus on white cola jobs. As a result, school training has lost its primary objective. Most individuals no longer attend university or college education to gain knowledge and skills for life. Instead, they attend to improve their pay slip. It is, therefore, recommendable that the existing education programs should be re-evaluated to meet the original goal of education of equipping people with life skills and knowledge.
