Railway transport in Kenya

In Kenya, there are so many methods that people use to move from place to place with their goods. The most common ones are road transport and transport by air. However, there is one method that not many people consider or talk about, railway transport. Not many Kenyans ever think of using the train to go to their various destinations. This is because of the following reasons.

1) The disadvantages of using railway transport.

a) It is slow.

Railway transport is slower some of the other modes of transport used in Kenya. This therefore makes those who wish to travel fast or reach their destination within a short period of time will not be able to do so using the railway transport as much as they would using other means of transport.

b) It is not flexible.

This is because trains only travel in the few areas that have a railway on them and since they carry so many passengers, they cannot change their route just because one passenger wants them to.

Even though traveling using the railway transport has its disadvantages, it is still used by some people in Kenya. This definitely means that it also has some advantages. The following are some of the advantages of using railway transport.

2) The advantages of using railway transport.

a) Carrying of bulky goods.

As people move from one place to another, they tend to carry some of their belongings with them. It is not just people who wish to move their goods from one place to another, but also companies and other business organizations. Some of these goods are very bulky and cannot be carried by other modes of transport other than the railway transport. Trains can carry very bulky goods over very long distances.

b) Carrying capacity.

Trains have a

lot of space inside them to be occupied by its passengers and even goods. For example, when some of the schools in Kenya are going for long trips to various places in the country, some of these schools choose to travel by train since the trains are the only means of transport that can fit all of them.

c) It is safest.

Railway transport is the safest means of transport in Kenya. This means that the chance of the passenger who travel by train not reaching their destination in the same condition that they were in when they boarded the train as a result of an accident are very small compared to the other modes of transport. This makes some people to prefer railway transport over the other modes of transport.

Traveling using railway transport has its advantages and disadvantages.
