The benefits that come with being a prefect

Being a prefect can sometimes be tiresome and stressful. Telling people to do one thing or another, taking others to the teachers to be disciplined and doing many other things that make anyone feel bad and uncool. However, being a prefect is not all bad. It has a few benefits of its own. However, in most schools in Kenya, the benefits of being a prefect may vary from school to school. Therefore, what would make any student add on to his or her school work with the work that comes with being a prefect? The following are just but a few benefits that come with being a prefect.

1) It allows you to have good curriculum vitae.
When one is looking for a job which offers the position of a manager or some kind of a job, most of these people like seeing your experience as a leader. If you have never been any kind of a recognized leader anywhere in your life, then it might be very impossible for the people offering you the leadership position.

2) It allows you to have a great relationship with your teachers.
When you are a prefect, you usually work very close with the teachers. This is mainly because there are a few things that a prefect cannot do which might be sometimes necessary in cases of students misbehaving. Such things include expelling and suspending students from school, calling their parents to school in order to talk with them about their children’s lives at school and many other things which only a teacher is allowed to do. By working closely with the teachers, you build a wonderful relationship with them which helps in so many cases. For example, even if other students accuse you of any wrong which you have not done,

the teachers will be able to know that you are innocent even before you get to defend yourself because they know you well and also because they have become your friends.

3) It gives you more space to study.
Most students spend more than twenty percent of the time they spend at school talking with other students or telling other students not to disturb them. However, as a prefect, not many people will want to disturb you when you are reading or doing any other thing since they are all afraid that if they disturb you, then you might report them to the teachers which might put them in big trouble.

The benefits that come with being a prefect are there and they are even more than these ones. There are some schools in Kenya which even offer to give the prefects more food and even different uniforms than the other students. Generally like most things in Kenyan schools, it all depends on the kind of school that you are in.
