Question one
a) Define the following terms (6mks)

b) State the disadvantages of traditional file management systems (4mks)
c) A news paper publisher uses relational database to record details of advertisement placed by businesses and members of the general public. Two relations (tables) Customer and Advertisement are used for this database. Customer (customerId, Name, Adress, CustomerType) Advertisement (AdvertId, Content, DateAdvertPlaced, NoOfNights,
Classification, CustomerId) Each advertisement is assigned a unique advert.
i) Explain what is meant by foreign key (2mks)
ii) Name the attribute which is the foreign key in the relation advertisement (3mks)
iii) Indexes are created on customer and Name attributes. Explain why an index is used? (3mks)
iv) Which of the two attribute indexes is secondary index? (2mks)
d) The following is an extract from a spreadsheet that shows how many supermarket loyalty points a customer would earn by spending different amounts of money on supermarket goods. The supermarket is currently operating a bonus scheme, which adds a fixed percentage of points to the points earned. The fixed percentage used is 10%.
