• Answer three questions only
• Question one and two are compulsory
• In question three choose only one of the optional set texts you have prepared on
• Each of your essays must not exceed 450 words.
• All answers to be written in the answer booklet provided.
This paper consists of 2 printed pages.
Answer three questions only.
1. Creative Composition (Compulsory) (20mks)
Either
a) Write a story ending with the words: As I watched him disappear into the dark night, I knew it was all over – the worst form of betrayal.
Or
b) Write a story based on the proverb:
“A pot is broken at the door step”.
2. Drama (Compulsory) (20mks)
“Seemingly upright citizens will compromise their morals when their wallets and livelihoods are threatened”. With illustrations from Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People, write an essay in
support of this statement.
3. Optional Set texts
Either
a) The Short Story
Macmillan (Ed), Half a Day and Other Stories. (20mks)
The story, ‘Money man’ by Peter Nazareth has a moral lesson to be learned. Using
illustrations from the text, write an essay based on the moral lesson.
Or
b) Drama
John Ruganda, Shreds of Tenderness. (20mks)
With illustrations from the play, Shreds of Tenderness by John Ruganda, write an essay
showing the problems refugees face.
Or
c) The Novel
Velma Pollard, Homestretch. (20mks)
When David came back after his sojourn abroad, the Jamaica he knew as a youth was no
more. Drawing your illustrations from Velma Pollard’s Homestretch, write an essay that
captures this conclusion.
