• Answer three questions only
• Question one and two are compulsory
• In question three choose only one of the optional set texts you have prepared on
• Where a candidate presents work on more than one optional text, only the first one to appear will be marked
• Each of your essays must not exceed 450 words.
• All answers to be written in the answer booklet provided.
This paper consists of 2 printed pages.
Candidates should check the question paper to ensure that all pages are printed as indicated
Answer three questions only
1. Creative composition (Compulsory) (20mks)
Either
a) Write a composition starting with:
“As I said goodbye to her, little did I know that, that would be the last time I would be seeing
her…..”
OR
b) Write a story to illustrate the saying:
“You can not climb the ladder of success with your hands in the pocket”.
2. Drama (compulsory set text) (20mks)
An enemy of the people – Henrik Ibsen
“All that glitters is not gold”
Write an essay to illustrate this statement drawing your examples from the play. “An enemy of the
people”
3. Optional set texts (20mks)
a) The short story
Macmillan (e.d). Half a Day and other stories.
With illustrations from Saida Hagi Divie Hertz’s story, “Government by magic spell” show
how a community reaps what it sows.
OR
b) Drama (20mks)
Shreds of Tenderness by John Ruganda.
With illustrations from the play “shreds of tenderness”, write a composition explaining the
appropriateness of the title of the play, “Shreds of Tenderness” by John Ruganda.
OR
c) Novel (20mks)
Homestretch – Velma Pollard
With illustrations from Velma Pollard’s Homestrecth, write an essay on the problems
affecting the Jamaican society.
