OUESTION ONE
MRM, a steel company, has told would be graduate trainees that they must apply for its scheme via
the internet. They must send their details over the net, and then pass a telephone interview before
attending a two day conference. To use pen and paper they must have a very good excuse, such as
disability or lack of computer access.
Corrugated Steel commissioned Access Kenya, a software company, a year ago to produce a tailor
made program. Now it is interviewing the first applicants for its 2009 intake, who have applied via the
web.
Many companies have electronic application forms, which applicants can down load, but MRM
believes it’s the first to process application on line.
The steel company has been approached by Kenya Revenue Authority and Kenya Commercial Bank
who also run the graduate trainee program to hear about this system. Other companies are likely to
follow suit.
‘We have been invited to speak at a number of seminars about it already, because we are the first
company to take this fully interactive approach,’ said Anil Shah the human resource director of MRM.
MRM said it was happy with the scheme. ‘A lot of youngsters have said they have applied to us
because it was such an innovative idea,’ He said.
