QUESTION ONE (COMPULSORY) [25 Marks]
a) Define the following terms as used in education

b) Explain the implication of the philosophy of constructivism in the teaching of

c) Outline the various stages in the development of chemistry as a subject.

e) State and explain the characteristics of a good instructional objective in the
teaching of chemistry. (5mks)
f) Discuss the importance of improvisation of chemistry teaching resources from the
learner’s immediate environment. (3mks)

a) Discuss the main factors for the choice of teaching methods in chemistry.

b) Discuss the instructional purposes of “Project work” as a teaching method.

QUESTION FOUR (15 Marks)
a) Omondi is a chemistry teacher in Kabarak High school. He wants to prepare 1M
HCl for a practical with Form3 students. Explain how he will prepare 3dm³ of the
acid given that HCl acid solution has a specific gravity of 1.08gcm-3
and a -
molecular weight of 36.54 and a purity of 35%. (9mks)
b) Describe the different types of practical design that he would use to teach the
concept of “Standardization of acids”. (6mks)

QUESTION FIVE (15 Marks)
a) Assume you are a newly posted teacher to Elite Academy. Your head of
department asks you to avail your instructional preparation for the topic of
“Chlorine and its Compounds”
(i) Prepare a sample test for the topic to be administered at the end of the
topic. (5mks)
(ii) Explain why it is advisable to write a marking scheme alongside the
question paper. (2mks)
(iii) Explain why it is important to develop an item analysis when developing a
