You are given a mixed bacterial culture from which you are required to isolate a single pure culture. Discuss five methods that you can use in the laboratory to isolate and identify bacteria. (20 Marks)

(a) A flesh eating streptococcus pyogenes divides every 10 minutes at body temperature. You fall down and get a knee injury and ge infected with 5 S. Pyogenes cells. (i) After 2 hours without medication, how many bacterial cells will be ravaging your body. (5 Marks) (ii) Assuming that for every ten thousand bacteria cells, a centimeter of flesh is consumed, how much tissue would have been lost after 2 hours. (5 Marks) NB: “The problem is not factual” (b) Outline the Koch Postulates which help to identify the etiological cause of disease and state cases where they do not apply. (10 Marks)
