d. Define earthing as applied to electrical installation. (1 Marks) e. With reference to earthing systems distinguish between continuous neutral and-earthing leakages circuit breaker-systems of earthing. (6 Marks) f. Explain stroboscopic effect and how it can be prevented. (4 Marks)

b. With the aid of a suitable wiring circuit explain the principle of operation of a fluorescent fitting. (5 Marks) c. An office (18 x 43 x 6)m requires an illumination at desk level of 330lux. The mounting height of the lamps above the desk level is 2m. The following alternatives are applicable: i. 80w twin fluorescent fittings giving 9600 lumens when new ii. 150w tungsten filament lamps giving 4000 lumens when new
Determine the number of lamps needed for each alternative assuming a coefficient of utilization of 0.75 and a maintenance factor of 0.85. Comment on your results and sketch a plan of the fittings. (6 Marks)
