There is a lot of debate in many local organisations in Kenya as to whether
organsations are practicing personnel management or human resource
management with regard to management of employees in work organisations. As
a Human Resource consultant, you have been invited by management
practitioners to assist clarify the difference.
Critically examine the difference between application of the two concepts in
Kenya and indicate the role of the function in contributing to organizational
effectiveness. [15 marks]

2.
Compare and contrast the concepts of job analysis and job design as applied in
Human Resource management. Explain with suitable examples how each concept
could be applied to improve the performance in an organisation. [15 marks]

3.
The Scientific Management school of thought emphasized scientific training of
workers to increase their competences for job performance. Explain the
circumstances which could cause an organisation to train its employees indicating
the benefits expected at the end of such training. Highlight the techniques such
organisation could employ to establish the training needs of its employees.

4.
Explain the rationale for performance appraisal and indicate why employees do
not receive it well in organisations. Suggest the measures an organisation should
put in place to improve performance appraisal. [15 marks]

5.
Critically examine the extent to which organisations can use money as a means of
compensation to motivate staff. Highlight the features of an effective
compensation plan.
