1.a)There is need for a music teacher to demonstrate the practice of a musician in his/her profession. Discuss this statement in light of developing ā€œself Relianceā€ in our students. (10 marks)

b)Outline two features that differentiate Idealism from Naturalism. What implications does each philosophy have in as far as music teaching is concerned. (10 marks)

c)In which two ways does the Principle of Distributed effort influence the concept of ā€œpracticeā€ in a given music task.

2.Explain how each of the following has influenced the growth of music today.
i) Guido d’ Arezzo

ii) The 17th – 18th Century Slave trade in Africa.

3.In which two ways can a prospective adjudicator be influenced by ā€œEthnocentrismā€. Explain with relevant examples how he/she can eliminate this attitude. (15 marks)

4.What do you understand by the following concepts in relation to music appreciation. Give examples in each case.
a) Aesthetic experience
b) Enculturation
c) Socialization (15 marks)

5.Pragmatism asserts that emphasis in Education should be placed on the Method of attaining knowledge rather than certification at the end of the learning process. Explain the implication of this view, illustrating how applicable it is the Music Education. (15 marks)
