Unemployment in Kenya has been on the rise. Politicians have always used this to get into power by promising youths, who are the most affected people that they will eradicate this problem. Instead after they get to power they forget their promises and some try to blind us with projects that they say will help the youth but their motive is stealing money from the government. The unemployment problem puts students into more worry as they work hard in schools, colleges or universities. More people are opting to start businesses since education has become less promising to Kenyans. In 2012 the unemployment rates rose by about 40%, but with the "digital government" this is likely to reduce in 2013.This month when the budget was released, Kenyan youth were relieved when it was said that firms which employed inexperienced youth would be given tax holidays or other incentives. This would automatically mean that more youth would be employed from 2013; this is just a small stride in our long journey to eradicate unemployment in Kenya.

Africa is known to be the continent full of resources in the world, in fact most of the resources consumed all over the world about 56% comes from Africa alone. This creates an irony since Africa is one of the poorest regions on earth. Kenya is among this countries with one of the largest population growth in Africa, what people don't realize is that we have more employment potential than any place in the world; to get to there we only need to have unity with one mind and exploit the resources we have wisely not to deplete them. Countries like Austria are really small yet they have a larger GDP (Gross Domestic Product) .

This means if we want to stop unemployment we first have to accept

that we are enemies of ourselves.
The sad part about unemployment in Kenya is that some of the unemployed people have admirable academic qualifications and high potential. The digital government is trying to solve this complicated equation by trying to give them loans, but the big question is why should they go up to university and become jobless when they can just take loans and start business after O level? With unemployment still going on the parliament passed a bill to increase the retirement age to 60 years making the situation even worse.

The government should go back to the drawing table and amend this law to increase employment for these educated youth who are pushed to poverty when they worked so hard to get good papers.

The education system in Kenya should also be changed down from kindergartens to universities. In the current system success is getting to university and getting employed by a good employer who will pay us large salaries this limits creativity of our children. We should teach our children on how to come up with new ideas so that they can create jobs instead of waiting to be employed.

The digital government has also come up with a project to introduce laptops which has created a large controversy since a lot of money has been allocated to that sector, introduction of technology to Kenyan children will be a great advantage because computers produce the richest people in the world.

The government should also take an initiative to protect local industries from foreign dominance. The film industries are mostly affected by this where Kenyans opt to see foreign movies compared to those we have produced locally. We should stop exporting everything especially agricultural products and support the local farmer who tries so hard to support their family.

Unemployment problem can be resolved not by the government but by us we are the country and we decide what we do with our resources and people.
