1. Examine the texts provided (A, B, C) of classroom interaction then answer the following
questions.

a) Explain the type of classroom organization (learning setting) presented in each test.
Verify your answer with evidence from the texts. (4marks)

b) Classroom interaction between a teacher and students typically has a pattern of
‘initiation, reply and evaluate/feedback’ (IRE/F).
Demonstrate if this pattern is evident with examples from the text(s). (4marks)

c) What would you say is the role of the teacher in each text? Do you approve
of the way learning is organized and the way interaction is conducted in each classroom?
Explain your answer. (4marks)

d) Of the three examples of classroom organization and interaction is the texts which
mode is most effective for language teaching and which one is least effective?
Explain. (4marks)

e) Which extract has the highest potential for students’ learning? Explain your answer.
(4marks)

2. Most English language speakers in Kenya learnt it as a second language. What are some
of the errors they display and how can they be remedied? (10 marks)

3. Explain error analysis theory at the same time critique its merits and demerits. (10 marks)

4. What are the key tenets of Krashen’s Input Theory. What are the merits and demerits
of this Theory? (10 marks)
