a) Explain the paradigm that “menus favour knowledge in the world over knowledge in the head”.

c) Briefly explain and illustrate using a diagram, the evaluation execution cycle proposed by
Donald Norman [6 Marks]
d) The focal point of Gestalt theory is the idea of "grouping," or how we tend to interpret a visual field or
problem in a certain way. Explain briefly the four main factors that determine grouping . [4 Marks]
e) Differentiate the terms as used in HCI: [4 Marks]
i. “gulf of execution” and “gulf of evaluation”.
ii. Horizontal prototyping and Vertical prototyping
f) Describe the steps in the Usability Engineering Lifecycle [4 Marks]
g) List Shneiderman’s Golden Rules of design [4 Marks]
h) KCA University accounts department is designing a database entry screen. The screen will
display a form consisting of a large number of text boxes. The information to be entered will be
in several categories, including personal details, account details and transaction information.
Discuss ways in which the Gestalt Laws of Perceptual Organization could be applied to
enhance the usability of this screen. [4 Marks]
