(ii) Answer question ONE (1) which is compulsory and try any other three questions.
(iii) In total, a candidate is to answer FOUR (4) questions which will carry 70% of the total

QUESTION ONE:
(a) Define both an Entrepreneur and Entrepreneurship. (5 Marks)

(b) When tracing the origin of Entrepreneur and Entrepreneurship, some views hold it that
Entrepreneurs are born while others maintain that they are made. What is your position
on this matter? Support your argument with known academic literature. (10 Marks)

(c) Entrepreneurship in Kenya is mostly characterized by Micro and Small Enterprises
(MSEs) which comprises what is popularly referred to as MSE sector in Kenya. You are
required to identify the characteristics of MSEs, their contributions to the Economy, and
challenges that face this sector. (15 Marks)

(d) What measures do you think have been put or needs to be put in place especially by
Government of Kenya to overcome the challenges you have identified in (c) above?
(10 Marks)
(e) Most of the Entrepreneurs start new Ventures as Micro or small anticipating that they
will grow to Medium and even large scale companies. Some of them do expand but
majority of them do not see their third birthday anniversary. This is one of the reasons
why the "missing middle" exists in Kenya today. As a young Entrepreneur, highlight
some of the strategies you will put in place to make your Business grow. (10 Marks)

QUESTION TWO
In order to make Entrepreneurship develop rapidly in Kenya, it requires the concerted efforts
of more than one participant. Explain. (10 Marks)

QUESTION THREE
(a) Given choice to start a Partnership or a sole proprietorship form of Business
Venture, which one would you start and why? ( 5 Marks)
(b) In either of the case as chosen in (a) above, detail the registration procedure
required. (5 Marks)

QUESTION FOUR
As a young up coming Entrepreneur who will also be responsible for the day to day
management of the Business, in what ways will an understanding of the emerging
Management thinking of Systems approach, Learning Organizations, and Total Quality
management (TQM) be useful to you? Be brief and precise to the point. (10 Marks)

QUESTION FIVE
In what ways can Franchising form of business arrangement be beneficial to young up
coming Entrepreneurs in Kenya? (10 Marks)

QUESTION SIX
Give an outline of a Business plan and describe both marketing and financial sections.
Although the executive summary comes first in the Business plan, it is prepared last. Why is
it so? (10 Marks)

QUESTION SEVEN
Although Vision 2030 aims at making Kenya an industrializing Nation, there is still some fear
that this may not happen unless among other factors, there is proper choice of appropriate
technology relevant to Kenya. What is appropriate technology and what factors should be taken
into account when choosing an appropriate technology? (10 Marks)
