Section C.

SECTION A: (COMPULSORY) 40 MARKS
1. (a) Define the term ’plagiarism’. (2 mks)
(b) Identify and explain the three types of plagiarisms. How can you avoid plagiarism?
(3 mks)
2. Listening is not the same thing as hearing. Justify this with a relevant example.
(5 mks)
3. Chronemics is the science of time and its impact on people. Use a relevant example
to explain how this can determine the success or failure of any communication
transaction.

4. You have been asked to present a speech on a topic of your choice. Explain vividly
what you will do at the following stages:
(a) Introduction (2 mks)
(b) Body (5 mks)
(c) Conclusion (2 mks)

5. (a) Use appropriate examples to distinguish between the following types of libraries;
i) Public and private libraries (4 mks)
ii) Academic and special libraries (4 mks)

(b) Describe clearly how you would identify, locate and retrieve a book from library
shelves. (7 mks)

SECTION B: ANSWER ONLY ONE QUESTION FROM THIS SECTION (15
MARKS)
6. (a) Why should there be approximate distance (personal space) between the speaker
and the audience members in a particular communication transaction? (5 mks)
(b) State and explain any four components of non-verbal communication and how they
can enhance speech delivery. (10 mks)
7. (a) Explain how you can budget for the available time at your disposal, to successfully
accomplish the following tasks;
i) Attend Lectures

ii) Engage in private study
iii) Access library sources
iv) Produce assignments (10 mks)
(b) Use an example to explain how you can set realistic and measurable goals for
your study. (5 mks)

b) Use examples to describe the following terms as used in library user education.

and yet it is a skill that many people are least skilled in. Use examples to explain any
five techniques that one can embrace to become an effective listener. (10 mks)
