1. (a) Identify and describe the three main characteristics of the United States of American
educational system. (9 mks)
(b) Critically assess the influence of democracy on the British education system. (6 mks)
(c) Describe the curriculum structure of the French system of compulsory education and
assess its effectiveness in preparing the youth for national development. (5 mks)
(d) Identify and describe at least two Key rationales underlying the philosophy of
Kenya’s 8-4-4 system of education. (10 mks)
SECTION II: ANSWER TWO QUESTIONS FROM THIS SECTION.
2. (a) Define the meaning of the term wastage in education. (5 mks)
(b) With reference to the national system of education in Kenya, identify and describe
the three areas of wastage in education. (3 mks)
(c) Identify and explain any three measures which should be taken to correct wastage in
the current Kenyan system of education. (12 mks)
3. (a) Identify and describe the five methods for studying comparative Education. (10 mks)
(b) State the method you would choose to study comparative education and explain why
you would choose it over other methods. (10 mks)
4. The United Nations has published The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and The
Declaration of the Child to underscore the importance of primary education. As an educator,
identify at least two benefits of primary education and write a convincing argument for each
benefit towards national development. (20 mks)
