QUESTION ONE (COMPULSORY) 30 MARKS.
Organizations that prosper for a long time depicts proper mechanisms that have been put
in place to solve disputes.
a) What is meant by the terms employee grievances and industrial disputes.
(4 marks).
b) By citing relevant examples from various organizations, critically examine the
economic impact of industrial disputes and outline some of the procedures that
can be used to settle disputes. (12 marks).
c) Discuss the ineffective strategies of solving conflicts. (4marks).
d) Using practical examples, examine the types of unions that are within the labour
movement. (6 marks).
e) Briefly examine the distributive and integrative bargaining
sub-processes. (4 marks).

QUESTION TWO.
Flanders (2002) defines collective bargaining as a,”social process that continually turns
disagreements into agreements in an orderly fashion.”
a) What are the prerequisite for success in collective bargaining? (4 marks).
b) Clearly examine the process of handling disputes through the Industrial courts.
(10 marks).
c) Examine the role of management as a party to good Industrial Relations
(6 marks).

a) According to Robinson (2000), “Not all conflict is bad and not all co-operation is
good.” Conflict could be productive and could have positive effect. Discuss the
positive aspects of conflict in an organization. (10 marks).
b) Discuss the main objectives of Trade Unions in Kenya and the types of Union
Security that exist in the industry. (10 marks).

a) Labour Relations matters in Kenya are regulated by three bodies viz, the Central
Organization of Trade Unions (C.O.T.U), The Federation of Kenya Employers
(F.K.E) and the government. In the view of this statement, detail the main
functions of:-
