b) Explain two reasons why studying sociology is relevant for a Computer Science

c) Justify the classification of sociology as a science and explain why sociology is
comparatively less developed than the other social sciences (8mks)
d) Explain what is meant by the ‘sociological perspective’ (2mks)
e) Explain the relationship between sociology and the following social sciences:
i) Psychology
ii) Anthropology
iii) Economics
iv) History (8mks)

2. a) ‘Man is a social being’. Using your knowledge of social groups, explain this
statement with at least five examples. (5mks)
b) Give five features of a rational society (5mks)
c) “The transformation of the society is linked to human invention.” Discuss this
statement focusing on the agricultural, industrial and post industrial society
showing the effect of such transformation on the human social structure.

3. a) You have just read an article on one of the local dailies that decries the unequal
system of punishing crime between the rich and the poor. Using a relevant
sociological theory explain why this is the case. (6mks)
b) According to the Functional Theorists, deviance has negative and positive
functions. Discuss. (8mks)
c) Differentiate between the psychological, biological and sociological explanation
for deviance. (6mks)

4. Discuss the ideas proposed by the following founding fathers of sociology and
explain why their ideas are no longer widely accepted by sociologists:
i) Auguste Comte and the positivist Sociology.
ii) Herbert Spencer and Social Darwinism (20mks)
