SPY 311 METHODS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL RESEARCH

INSTRUCTIONS: Answer Question one and any other three questions.

1.Short case

Recently the government introduced a department to oversee counseling services in secondary schools. The services are in place in schools but it has been observed that there is general apathy among the would be clients as well as negative attitudes towards the service. Still, most of them perceive counseling as a punishment. Because of this, even the deserving clients do not benefit from the service. You have been requested to provide assistance as a researcher to carry out a study on the factors influencing the apathy, negative attitude and perception.

Required:
i) Identify a suitable topic for the same
ii) What data collection instruments would you use? Explain
iii) Briefly describe the kind of data you would collect using this instruments and the methods of data analysis you would use.

2. Using your knowledge of psychological research method, explain the factors that influence the choice of research topics in the field of psychology.

3. Describe the non probability sampling methods you would consider for sampling in a study of the psychosocial effects of the stigmatization experienced by homosexuals.

4.a) Discuss the various criteria that you would use to check for validity of research instruments developed to measure some constructs.
b) Explain any four types of research designs used in a psychological research.

5.I) Citing relevant examples, discuss the ethical challenges experienced in researches involving the collection of data using psychological tests.
ii) Describe the factors to consider when interviewing a client in a maladaptive habits.

6. You have been consulted to help TABIA NGO to develop an observation guide for use in the study of aggression among youths during political campaigns. Highlight the key issues to consider when doing this and develop a sample guide for this NGO.
