Section A
Question one

You have been given the duty of inviting Mr. Kausi, who has bee n given the priviledge of speaking to a group of 100 chinese investors. The investors have come to explore business opportunities im Kenya. Since Kausi was a successful businessman, it was thought that he was the best placed person to articulate those opportunities.

i. Identify the type of speech that you would give in inviting Kausi (2mks)

ii. Identify five factors that you would consider in giving your speech (10mks)

iii. Identify and illusrate five other types of speech (10mks)

iv Identify ten ways that Kausi would use to reduce or eliminate the nervousness that he always experienced every time he was invited to address a gathering (10mks)

v. Suggest and explain to Mr. Kausi the four methods he may use in delivering the speech (8mks)

Question one

i. Identify and discuss the seven steps in the pulic speaking communication process (14mks)

ii. Discuss any three ways in which an audience gives feedback to a speaker (6mks)

Question two

Musevali, a visiting Ugandan priest, was invited to talk to Gretsa University students on "Relationships".
i. Discuss any five audience factors he should consider when giving the speech (10mks)

ii. Identify any five barriers that he may encounter in delivering his speech, and show how he can overcome them. (10mks)

Question three

Mr. Maneno, the public speech lecturer, is giving a lecture on ''structuring a public speech''. He has just explained that it should have three parts: an introduction, discussion and conclusion.

i. Explain four objectives of an introduction that he is likely to highlight on the introductory part (4mks)

ii. Suggest to him the ways to gain attention and interest of the audience (4mks)

iii. Discuss some of the functions of closing remarks that he is likely to highlight (4mks)

iv. Discuss any two methods that he can use in developing the body of the speech (8mks)

Discuss five methods of organizing speech material (20mks)
