1.Read the case below and answer the questions that follow.
The Centre for African Cultural Studies is one of the academic departments in a private university in Kenya. The academic staff in this centre rely heavily on information from referred journals for their research. Offices of the centre are spread in three locations. Two are in the same campus but in different floors of a building. The third office is located in another campus which is 3 kilometres away.

The centre maintains a small resource centre that is shared among the 74 academics and research staff. The resource centre has both electronic and hard copies of referred journals that are subscribed.

The centre has four computers in total for use by the academic and research staff. One computer is located in the resource centre and each in the centre's offices.

The university administration requires the academic and research staff to justify their employment through publication of their research findings. As a result, the staff are demanding for improved services in the resource centre. This is because they need current information through easy access to the subscribed and referred journals to do meaningful research.
(a) Discuss the measures the resource centre manager should take in order to serve the staff effectively.(15 marks)
(b) Write a report to the university administration emphasizing the benefits of networking the three locations of the centre.(15 marks)
(c) Discuss the importance of organizing and storing records of the subscribed journals in more than one medium.(10 marks)

2.(a) Explain five components of an information system.(10 marks)
(b) You have recently been hired as an information officer by an international organization and posted to their field station situated in Lodwar. This organization heavily relies on information collected from the field in order to meet their set aims of alleviating poverty. The majority of the population you are dealing with are illiterate and you are expected to collect the necessary information.
Describe five methods that you should use to collect data from the field.(10 marks)

3.(a) Discuss the factors that you should consider when developing a user-friendly information communication technology (ICT) system.(10 marks)
(b) As the information communication technology (ICT) manager in an information centre, explain the menu structure for the control and audit of the information system used for procurement of referred journals.(10 marks)

4.(a) Explain how information centres would provide better services by embracing information technologies.(8 marks)
(b) Describe the various stages of information systems development.(12 marks)

5.(a) Discuss the main features of high level programming language.(10 marks)
(b) A newly employed information officer realized that there is need to adopt a management information system (MIS). Describe the approach that should be taken for the MIS to be accepted.(10 marks)
