a) List and explain two advantages and two disadvantages of WLAN (4 marks)
b) Moi University is in the process of upgrading its Local Area Network. State and explain three principles of network design to be considered when undertaking the exercise. (6 marks)

d) Most organizations today are designing and developing their Local Area Networks (LAN). State and explain FOUR factors needed to be considered before setting up a LAN. (4 marks)
e) State any four services provided by communication network. (2 marks)

i. Distinguish between routers and switches (2 marks)
ii. Explain why routers add more latency than switches (2 marks)
g) Briefly differentiate between IPv4 and IPv6 (6 marks)

a) Assuming you have been employed as Network Administrator in Moi University, state and explain five servers you would advice to be set up within the University’s LAN (10 marks)
b) Discuss three factors that should be taken into account when choosing a data transmission medium (4 marks)
c) Moi University is intending to improve the performance of its LAN. Discuss five specific areas to be addressed in order to improve performance of its LAN (6 marks)

a) Apart from the IP address, name and explain two other parameters you set in a computer in order to connect it to the internet (4 marks)
b) State and explain 3 ways a Network Administrator in a University can enhance security in the LAN (6 marks)
c) DHCP is protocol that dynamically assigns IP addresses to client computers in a network. Using a diagram, show how DHCP works indicating messages being exchanged between the server and client (10 marks)
