Answer a total of THREE questions, One from each section.

SECTION A (24 Marks)

Discuss the rational for the study of History of Education in the teacher education programmes.

2.
Making appropriate citations, discuss the contributions of ancient Egyptian and Greek educational systems to our modern education theory and practices.

3.
Assess the factors that led to the rise of medieval universities and what you consider to be their lasting influence to modern education.

SECTION B (23 Marks)

Discuss the main features of African education and their contributions to the modern education theory and practice.

5.
Show how aspects of indigenous education in Africa may be relevant to the theory and
practice of early childhood and primary education today.

6.
Discuss the view that educational reforms in post-colonial Africa have been influenced more by foreign factors than by internal factors.

Outline the changing role(s) that Africans played in the development of their own education in Kenya during the colonial period in Kenya.

Using appropriate examples, discuss the main challenges facing education in Kenya today.

Describe five main features of change in the system of education in Kenya since independence.
