Answer Three questions, at least ONE from each.
SECTION 1
1.
Discuss the role of the Arabs and the Persians in the establishment of Islam in East Africa.
2.
With specific examples, discuss the factors which facilitated and those that hindered the spread of Islam in East African.
3.
Examine the impact of the Portuguese on the Islamization of East Africa and show why they were unable to supplant Islam.

SECTION II
4.
Critically assess the spread of Islam in East Africa during the reign of Seyyid Said.
5.
Using specific examples, assess the impact of colonialism on the spread of Islam in East Africa.
6.
Discuss the establishment of Islam in Tanganyika.
