INSTRUCTIONS: Answer Question ONE and two other questions. Avoid repetition
of material across questions.

Present an overview of the ways in which the themes of emigration and race are treated in the texts you have studied and discuss the relation of these themes to the social and historical setting of the novels. Then focus closely on one novel to elucidate your arguments.
