Explain briefly four ways in which appropriate packaging can allow to control some primary sources of postharvest loss of agricultural commodities. (6mks)

Question Two.
Give four examples showing that secondary causes of food losses can be prevented by good planning. (6mks)

Question Three.
Discuss how postharvest physiology affects management of agricultural commodities. (6mks)

Question Four.
Describe briefly four techniques traditionally used for the control of insects in stored grains and oil seeds. (6mks)

Question five.
Outline any four practices or technologies used to increase the shelf -life of fruit trees. (6mks)

SECTION II (Answer any TWO questions in this section)

Question Six.
Discuss four ways in which postharvest cooling of agricultural commodities controls food loss. (20mks)

Question Seven

Discuss five examples of postharvest operations carried out as part of the preparations of vegetables for the market showing how they can influence positively or negatively the qualitative aspects of the vegetables shelf life. (20mks)

Question Eight.
Using diagrams where possible, describe any food dryer of your choice and explain how it operates and how drying of food stuff takes place in the dryer. (20mks)
